Headaches and Migraines
Your head sits atop a complex network of bones, soft tissue, nerves, and blood vessels in the neck. Sometimes, poor posture can contribute to excess tension in the neck and suboccipital muscles. Other times, a lifetime of compensation in the body can affect how weight and force are distributed, leaving the head and neck to work harder to stay balanced.
It’s like a heavy vase sitting on a wobbly table. In an effort to keep the vase upright, the table has to constantly adjust. Similarly, when the body isn’t providing a supportive foundation, the head and neck may pick up extra tension to maintain balance.
Through Rolfing Structural Integration, we work with the body's overall organization to create greater balance, mobility, and support. The goal is to help the head rest more effortlessly on top of the body, reducing the amount of muscular effort needed to hold it there.
For people struggling with migraines that just won’t go away, Rolfing can help bring more space to the structures that are causing your problems.
